Detroit’s Underground Music Academy (UMA) launches its first online courses.

Detroit’s Underground Music Academy (UMA) is launching its first set of online courses, led by local DJs Stacey Hotwaxx Hale, Rimarkable, and Coflo. Each course will run for eight weeks, and prospective students can apply until Tuesday, August 20th, though spots are limited.

Stacey Hotwaxx Hale’s course, Respect the Architects, delves into the history of electronic music, with a particular emphasis on Detroit’s influential scene. The course aims to provide students with a strong understanding of the key figures and foundational elements that have shaped electronic music.

Rimarkable’s class, Alchemy of the DJ, is designed to help students develop their own DJ style and identity. Lessons will include how to read a crowd, the role of DJing as a tool for social change, and how technical skills, music history, and intuition can come together to create a unifying experience on the dance floor.

Coflo’s class, The Details Matter, focuses on music production and post-production techniques. Students will learn the essentials of EQing, compression, and frequency masking, while also being encouraged to explore creative approaches beyond what is considered “technically correct.”

You can sign up for any of the courses via the provided registration link.
